Where: South America
Places I’ve Visited (5): Quito, Banos, Guayaquil, Montanita, Galapagos Islands
The Galapagos Islands! This place had been lifelong dream and is such a unique place. As far as exploring and seeing amazing things, this is number one for me. The diverse wildlife and busy ocean waters reeling with sharks and manta rays made this last minute decision incredible!
Paragliding in Banos was a first and more of a relaxing activity rather than being fast and furious. At first I was nervous but once I got adjusted in my seat, I was photo happy!
Lake Qualatoa was an incredible sight. Once an active volcano, it is so humble and peaceful.
Ecuador transport is so cheap by bus. 1 dollar for 1 hour anywhere up and down the mainland saves a lot of money.
Ecuador isn’t as big as Colombia for example, and that’s perfect. Its quicker to get around. Top to bottom is a 12-hour journey.
Maybe like other countries, but make sure you get the facts right if you are informed something. Countless times I was told something completely wrong like the easiness of a hike! Mount Pincincha in Quito was tougher than I thought.
Things to know
The Galapagos is amazing but A LOT more expensive than other parts of Ecuador. It’s a traveller’s trip, a honeymoon trip, a holiday excursion. You can do it cheap but fish around and don’t get hooked on one of these cruises if you think they aren’t worth it. There are plenty to compare. Guayaquil has a lot of street crime at night so be aware.
